FAQs for journalists
I am a journalist working on a story involving forensic work,
how do I find out more information about what you do?
If it is a current, unsolved case then the FSS does not comment
on ongoing cases. You will have to contact the police force that
is investigating the case.
The FSS publishes a number of fact sheets which give general information.
Further information about forensic disciplines not covered by the
FSS can be found from the Council for the Registration of Forensic
Practitioners on http://www.crfp.org.uk
or +44 (0)20 7383 2200.
Do you allow filming in your laboratories?
Demand for filming and the interviewing of scientists has increased
considerably and we are now unable to accommodate all requests,
unless there are exceptional reasons to do so. Because we are an
operational organisation, our work has to take priority.
Any requests for filming/interviews should be made by e-mail or
fax and should include an outline of your project and covering details
of your specific requirements.
The FSS will also make a charge for these facilities.
How do I go about doing research for a book/film etc?
The FSS publishes some information on the website including fact
sheets about the organisation and its work. There are also a number
of books relating to forensic science on the book list which you
may find helpful.
We have some forensic work that needs doing as part of our investigative
programme, can the FSS undertake such work?
We are able to undertake a limited amount of civil case work. However
all requests have to be made via a solicitor who should then contact
our legal services team on +44 (0)121 607 6985.
I have a media enquiry about the NDNAD/ I would like to carry out filming in connection with the database
